GREEN BAY -- Packers quarterback Brett Favre heads the list of the NFL's top 100 players, according to the Sporting News.
The ranking appears in the Sept. 8 edition of the publication, available on newsstands this week.
Favre, also ranked first in 1998, has never been lower than fourth in the list's six-year history. Seven NFL personnel evaluators helped determine the rankings.
Favre has discussed retirement, but the magazine notes that at 33 he "still gets more velocity on his passes than anyone in the known universe."
Favre, a three-time MVP, has a career winning percentage of .665 (115-58), third behind Joe Montana (.713) and Terry Bradshaw (.677) among quarterbacks with at least 100 starts. And despite playing a very vulnerable position, Favre has started 173 consecutive games, the longest streak in the league at any position.
The rest of the top 10 includes, in order, San Francisco wide receiver Terrell Owens, Kansas City running back Priest Holmes, Baltimore middle linebacker Ray Lewis, New York Giants defensive end Michael Strahan, Chicago middle linebacker Brian Urlacher, Miami defensive end Jason Taylor, Atlanta quarterback Michael Vick, Tampa Bay outside linebacker Derrick Brooks and Indianapolis quarterback Peyton Manning.
